Mac brings Wonder Woman to Selfridges

It's been a while for Design Girl, I know.  Life has got super busy with 'work, rest and play' (thanks Mars for that everlasting strapline).  As a result, her side-kick blog has somehow been suffering.  Anyhoo, all she needed was a little inspiration, a little sparkle to catch her eye and bring it all flooding back - the need to chat shit about cool stuff, that is.  So, she found it... (and will stop talking in the third person now...)

Friggin Wonderwoman at Selfridges, brought to us by none other than everyone's favourite and by far the coolest make-up brand on the planet, M.A.C.  Seriously, I didn't think the brand could get any cooler.

The range includes make up bags in radiant red and bulletproof blue, utility belt brush sets and an invincible mirror.  Love, love, love the stuff!  Whipping out the mirror to check your vivacious visage is like a NYPD cop pulling out his badge to pull rank.  Noticeable.  If you're part of the in-crowd, you'll be carrying one of these bad boys (or bad girls?), for sure.

Make sure you watch the official M.A.C video - it's hotter than a bunting bull in a pepper patch.  So hot, in fact, that two trees were fighting over a dog.  Hotter than an armadillo's arse in a desert heat wave.  Ok, just stupid hot - I think you get it.  Quote:  "Surrounded by a bevy of transformed Plain Jane's on Paradise Island, Wonder Woman is awed by the magic of M.A.C".  Hilarious. In a dream world we would need truck loads of the stuff to deal with some of the Beverly Maccas out there.  Yikes. Check this out:

Wonderwoman rocks my world.... and as for M.A.C, I salute you.

Check out Selfridges windows and in-store to believe it....

Till we meet again.

Liberty Vs. Selfridges – My Shoes are better than your Shoes!

Some may think it’s a case of, ‘what Selfridges can do we can do better!’  It is after all shoe crazy over there on Oxford Street!  What am I talking about; you honestly don’t know?!  Come on ladies - the new shoe emporium at Selfridges has been in the making for a while now - and as if that wasn't enough, as of last week, Liberty has played its hand and has unveiled the wicked and wonderful world of Manolo Blahnik in the famous Regent Street store.

Yes, indeed; having sourced through his archive to create what Liberty is calling a ‘lust worthy’ collection, this exclusive range of Manolo Blahnik is visually astounding. I'm actually predicting that there are enough die-hard Blahnik fans out there, to rinse this collection in no time at all.  I should add that there are also some fabulous accessories available, so if your purses can't quite stretch to footwear, you can take a piece of this world home through another fabulous item of beauty, such as a handkerchief, pillow or umbrella.

Personally, I am still aroused by the shoe frenzy at Selfridges.  Just in case you had forgotten my post at the end of last month, the AMAZING new Shoe Emporium at Selfridges is being unveiled this season (the final completion being this Thursday 16th).   Liberty had no choice but to pull out its guns – I mean, come on - alongside the dribblingly fantastic and awe-inspiring exhibit of Vivienne Westwood’s shoe history (being showcased in the Ultralounge), Liberty couldn't just sit there and take a hit bashing!

Unfortunately, the Vivienne Westwood Collection merely flavours our minds with a  retrospective of the punk Queens' world of mayhem - the pieces are not for sale - but that's OK.  Even being in the same room as this collection of playful and passionate pieces of footwear, was enough for me to get to 'that place' (don't get me started).  Here is a selection of my favourite pieces.  Miaaooow!

I have to admit, I am slightly biased towards this designer, having carried out a work placement with her whilst a young and hungry fashion student.  I fell in love with her artistic endeavours back then and have folllowed her work ever since.  To me, no one will ever quite get the right mix between, sex, silhouette and rock 'n' roll like this lady.  She truly, just is....

I will end by saying, if you haven't already - check out the magical Vivienne Westwood shoe story on the Lower Ground floor at Selfridges in the Ultralounge - showing until 3rd October.  If you're more of a Manolo Blahnik kinda girl, you will love Liberty this season.  If however you’re more of a Choo girl, all I can say is ‘unclench’ - your time will come.

My sentiments exactly.

An Ode to a Shoe Fetish

With less than a month to go till the grand opening of Selfridges’ new Shoe Gallery on 16th September, there is a growing level of anticipation amongst London’s shoe elite.  This is the biggest project undertaken by the Westons since buying the store in 2003 for £628 million.  Pocket change.

The new shoe ‘emporium’, as they like to call it, is reportedly going to be larger than the ground floor of the Tate Modern.  Wow – I know!  A section of it's already open, giving us all a mere taster as to the level of grandiosity that is to come.  With carefully considered collections all pleasingly exhibited, piece by piece on varying heights of plateau, it is hard for the eye to do anything but devour each style one by one.  So many too choose from already - my heart is racing just at the thought of it.  So much so, I may need to sit down for a second on one of the vintage cinema seats in the central floor space.  How cool are these?

I guess partners also need somewhere to wait whilst we gawp at the selection of frivolous footwear.  They don't mind.  After all let’s face it - men love that sexual power that we ooze once we are elevated in one of those magnificent creations.  At the same time, we love towering over them, with a look of lusty confidence and dribbling satisfaction.  It's as though the world is at our feet (literally) and we are the Queen of our own destiny.  (Sorry, I went off on one for a second - back now.) What the hell am I going to be like when they open the entire floor?  Honestly.

One of the sales assistants told me how she has to dust the large glass shelves three times a day.  “I should bloody well hope so!” - I told her.  With labels including Chloe, Stella McCartney, Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Miu Miu, Balenciaga, you name it - you won't be disappointed.  I warn you though, enter at your own peril.  Not for the faint hearted, that's for sure. Mi-aaow!

So you don't get too over excited, I have just included one pair.  Baby steps.
